I have been a dog owner for 75 days of two King Charles Cavaliers and this weekend I will be taking the two girl dogs to meet a potential third.

He is 16 months old puppy (to their 8 and 9 years old) and a black & tan.

It would appear the cavalier comments I made prior to pet ownership (I'll only adopt free pets, I'll only have two, I only want elderly pets, I promise I'll stop looking at animals available online; being just a few of them) fly out the window in the face of an adorable liquid eyed animal.

Herro everyone! I hope the holidays weren't awful to both the human and pet bits of your families. I come bearing questions.

I am very, very seriously considering adopting two guinea pigs. I've been doing a lot of research and I believe that yes, I could give them what they need overall, and could be a great piggie parent. That said, I was hoping to pick the brains of anyone who either has/had piggies or similar small furry beings.

soooo maaaaany quesssstionsCollapse )

In 9 days I am getting my first ever dogs - a couple of elderly King Charles Cavalier Blenheims.

My sister (who has two small children) asked how this came about (they are 'rescue' dogs - ex breeding show bitches that are at retirement age) and as I told her, her eyes glazed over and she said;

"Oh god, it is like listening to someone going on about their kids".

I laughed and said she was correct. Except dogs are easier to train.

Hello again!!!

Guðr is a little over one year old now, and we recently took her to the vet for her yearly shots.

Oddly enough, she seems to be getting more afraid of the vet as she gets older. Her first checkups were fine, she did not give a tinker's dam.

But it's her 3rd vet appointment and she's more miserable each time she has to go. I'm kind of confused, I grew up with dogs, and neither of my dogs grew progressively more anxious about the vet- they were excited for the car ride TO the vet more than anything else.

Cut for gross details and a sad story BUT there are cute pictures!!!Collapse )

As my asswipe former neighbors predicted, Mica has shown her true colors. They claimed she was evil, and not fit to live indoors with civilized folk and felines. I and my roommate took one look at her deceptively adorable countenance, and scoffed. But after four months, we finally understand the truth of our former neighbors' words.

Beware the evil that lies within...Collapse )

Hey everyone,
My kitty Josie was recently diagnosed with diabetes. She started insulin a few weeks ago. It is very hard and very costly to treat, but the alternative was unnacceptable to me.
Not sure if anyone will know, since I think most of you are american, but i am trying to figure out where to get a cat/pet specific blood meter and strips (not a human one) here in ottawa canada. i dont have a credit card so i cant order online. my vet rents one but they charge 75$ for 2 days and I cant afford to do that the once a month she wants a curve done. any ideas? i know for human ones you can get the meters cheap or free when you buy strips, but is that the same for pet ones? i dont even know where to begin!
